Chuck directly oversees all the financial planning and investment management work done at Sovereign Financial.
In addition to being the President of Sovereign Financial Group, Inc., Chuck is also a Registered Principal with Raymond James Financial Services – one of the country’s largest independent investment firms.
As a Board CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM practitioner, Chuck understands that sheparding a client’s financial and retirement plan requires more than simply “picking investments”. Instead, he applies his experience as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM practitioner to coordinate all aspects of a client’s financial picture: goals, investments, taxes, liabilities, and, estate / legacy planning. By following this disciplined approach he is able to ensure all aspects of a client's financial and estate planning needs are properly coordinated and continuously monitored.
In addition to working with clients, Chuck is a regular commentator on financial topics for The New York Daily News, Reuters and CBS Market Watch. He has been quoted in numerous other publications such as Forbes, USA Today, Elle Magazine and others. He also speaks regularly to groups throughout the New York City and Fairfield County areas on a wide array of financial planning topics.
As an active member of the community, Chuck volunteers his time and expertise by sitting on a number of non-profit Boards in both New York and Connecticut. He is also a participating member of the National Financial Planning Association and American Mensa.Chuck received his degree in Finance from The University of Connecticut and completed his coursework for the CFP® certification with The American College.
Chuck resides in North Stamford with his wife, two children and one, very energetic, black Lab. He enjoys all things outdoors -- on the weekends you will find him with his family hiking the Mianus River, camping at the Ward Pound Ridge Preserve, skiing Thunder Ridge and Bromley or boating in the Long Island Sound.

John works with clients on account management and servicing. Prior to joining Sovereign Financial, John worked 12 years at Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor. John’s experience in account management is critical to Sovereign’s mission of delivering the highest level of client service and communication. In addition to his work with clients, John is an active member of The Easton Exchange Club in Fairfield County, Connecticut. John received an undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State University and his MBA from Sacred Heart University.
John resides in Fairfield with his wife and three children. He divides his free time between skiing and golf.
Devon is responsible for all aspects of office logistics and client scheduling. She has a BS from Sacred Heart University. While in college, Devon captained the division one Women’s Ice Hockey team, was a member of the Student Athletic Advisor Committee, and was involved in numerous community service projects. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, going on hikes, to the beach and taking frequent trips to Maine to visit with family.

Prior to joining Sovereign in 2006, Carmen was a Director at TIAA-CREF where she was the portfolio manager for one of TIAA-CREF’s fixed-income mutual funds. Previously, she managed privately-placed debt investments as part of TIAA-CREF’s $400+ billion assets under management. In addition, Carmen worked at the boutique investment bank, Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, in the Financial Restructuring Group.
Carmen received her BS from Cornell University with Distinction in 1992 and an MBA from Columbia University in 1996.
Carmen volunteers her time and expertise on the board of the Chinese Language School of Connecticut. She and her husband live in North Stamford with their two children. In her spare time, she enjoys tennis, family hikes, and boating on the Long Island Sound.
James Bernhart, CPA
In addition to being a Certified Public Accountant, Jim also holds the series 7 and 66 — he has been securities licensed since 2000. Prior to being a Financial Advisor, Jim was the Comptroller for Timex Corp. He is an active member of the Fairfield County business community as well as the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. Jim resides in Fairfield with his family and enjoys volunteering in the community.

Michael joined Sovereign Financial Group, Inc. to help individuals, families and business entities manage and preserve their wealth. By utilizing both his legal and financial experiences, Michael provides a holistic approach to wealth planning and management.
Michael gained valuable financial experience while working for Fortune 500 companies in the financial services industry. During his tenure as a financial advisor for Morgan Stanley, Michael created, recommended and implemented tailored financial strategies designed to help meet his clients’ short and long-term objectives and managed a portfolio of assets for individuals and business entities.
Michael is dedicated to developing lasting relationships with all his clients. He believes in helping each individual or entity become confident in assessing their financial objectives and participating in the wealth management process. One of the many benefits of working with Michael is his ability to provide clear, easily understood explanations of financial products and services. The customized personal program that Michael can provide is a roadmap towards your financial future.
Michael is a Member of the New York State Bar. He received his B.A. in Economics from Boston College and his J.D. from Pace University School of Law. Michael is married and has three children. Outside of the office, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, the scenic views of golf courses, coaching youth basketball, running and reading.
